You need Nintendo to do the initial concepts, have microsoft do there suggestions and "important" changes to the concepts and have Sony get the hardware and slap it together the proper way. All 3 developers together would form the power of CONSOLE-TRON!

Nintendo was ahead of Microsoft and Sony from the git-go on the Wii console, they brought the interactive feel to the console market. Microsoft and Sony want a piece of that pie too, and who could blame them. There's money to be made in interactivity, that's why Nintendo sold more consoles than anyone. There are more casual gamers than there are Hardcore gamers. Microsoft and Sony want to get more of those casual gamers to there consoles and in order to do that, you need to take the market away from the Wii users.

Nintendo would good for initial console design soley because a lot of Nintendos ideas and ideals are innovative and work very well on the markets.
